About Lisa Hausz

A True Story Teller In Real Life and Literature

As a lawyer, storytelling is part of David Stevens’ professional life. He often describes scenarios and incidents to the jurors to bail out his clients. As an expert, he now aims to take his storytelling to the next level.

He got the idea when his two kids pestered him to tell stories. The idea of making them heroes in their own narrative intrigued him; thus, he penned this exciting supernatural narrative.

His Qualities!

How He Writes!

His fictional works exude a hint of realism as if his stories are not fictional but retellings of real-life tales. He takes inspiration from court cases and drives narratives while keeping his clients’ information confidential.

Choosing to Tell Helena's Story

Writing “Speaking for Helena” has been a 20-year journey of pain, healing, and reflection. Helena wasn’t just a crime victim, she was family, and her extraordinary life deserved to be remembered for more than just her tragic death.

Commitment to Victim-Centered Storytelling

True crime stories should honor victims rather than simply sensationalize violence. There is always a person, or people, behind horrific crimes, and Helena’s story is no different. Helena was a survivor who fought through decades of hardship with incredible strength and resilience.  Yes, her death was violent and graphic, but her story is told through light-hearted stories of her many qualities, through front row seats of courtroom drama, and through the painful memories and heartbreaking emotions of her daughter, Maria. Helena’s story needed to be told with the same courage she showed every day of her life, and that Maria still carries with her so many years later.

Author’s Quote:

Author’s Quote: “This isn’t just a story about a family’s tragic loss; it’s about survival, about finding strength in the face of unimaginable adversity. It’s a story that demands to be told, not only for the family, but for Helena herself, whose voice was brutally silenced. It’s in her legacy that we speak for Helena and for all those that have been tragically taken.”

Excerpts

“The words didn’t make sense at first. ‘Your mother is deceased. We’re investigating it as a homicide.’ My world collapsed in that moment. Oshawa, the city we had called home, had become the site of my greatest loss.”

“As a child in communist Poland, my mother had learned to survive in a world where every move was watched, every resource rationed. But nothing in her past could have prepared her for the cruelty that would find her in Canada.”
